2027: Uvwie Monarch Pledges Support for Police Against Electoral Violence
The Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Dr Emmanuel Ekemejewa Sideso, Abe I, has pledged to mobilise his subjects to participate peacefully in political activities and collaborate with security agencies to prevent electoral violence in the kingdom and Delta State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The monarch gave the assurance when the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Samuel E. Erale, paid him a courtesy visit during his familiarisation tour of the Effurun Area Command.
Sideso pledged the palace’s continued support for the police through intelligence sharing and cooperation with security agencies to maintain peace and security, particularly during the forthcoming elections.
He also expressed confidence in Erale’s capacity to address security challenges in the state.
Earlier, Erale reiterated the Command’s resolve to tackle cultism, drug abuse and sexual offences through proactive policing and sustained collaboration with traditional institutions, community leaders and other stakeholders.
The commissioner thanked the monarch for his fatherly counsel and prayers, stressing that effective policing depended largely on cooperation between the police and the communities they serve.
He disclosed that he had directed Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to ensure that cases involving sexual abuse, defilement, incest and other serious offences were handled professionally and not unlawfully compromised.
Erale expressed concern over the prevalence of cultism and drug abuse, describing the problems as serious threats to young people and community security.
He urged traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders to support the police with credible intelligence and timely information to strengthen crime prevention.
The tour also provided an opportunity for the commissioner to interact with officers and men of the Effurun Area Command and engage key stakeholders, including the Chairman of Uvwie Local Government Council, Hon. Chief Anthony Onoriode Ofoni (JP), and the Chairman of the Delta State Internal Revenue Service, Hon. Chief Solomon Ighrakpata.
Addressing officers and stakeholders, Erale charged police personnel to maintain professionalism, discipline and dedication to duty.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led and proactive policing, emphasising that sustained community collaboration remained critical to combating cultism, drug abuse, sexual offences and other criminal activities.
