The Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Major General Felix A. Mujakperuo (retd.), has pledged to mobilise traditional rulers across Delta State to partner with the police in the fight against insecurity, kidnapping, armed robbery and other criminal activities.
The monarch gave the assurance when the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Samuel E. Erale, paid him a courtesy visit as part of his familiarisation tour of the state.
He stressed the importance of stronger collaboration between traditional institutions and security agencies in maintaining peace and safeguarding communities.
Mujakperuo, who is also Chairman of the Delta State Council of Traditional Rulers, described the Okpe people as peace-loving and expressed delight at Erale’s posting to the state.
He promised to encourage other traditional rulers to work closely with the police, particularly through community engagement and intelligence sharing, to address security challenges.
The monarch also expressed confidence in the commissioner’s ability to improve the security situation in the state.
Earlier, Erale had solicited the monarch’s support and counsel, acknowledging his wealth of experience as a retired senior military officer.
The police commissioner expressed concern over the threats posed by cultism and drug abuse, urging traditional institutions to help protect communities from their damaging effects.
He also reiterated his directive that sexual offences must be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law, warning against attempts to resolve such cases through informal settlements.
Ahead of the ember months and the forthcoming 2027 general elections, Erale assured the monarch of adequate security coverage, political neutrality and zero tolerance for electoral malpractice.
The commissioner subsequently visited the Sapele Area Command, where he addressed officers and men on the need to uphold discipline, professionalism and respect for human rights in the discharge of their duties.
He emphasised intelligence-led policing and urged officers to maintain public confidence through responsible conduct and strict adherence to the law.
Erale also called on community leaders and other stakeholders to strengthen their partnership with the police by providing timely and credible information that could help prevent crime and ensure public safety.
He stressed that effective security management required the cooperation of law enforcement agencies, traditional institutions and members of the public.
